Setting Up Two Factor Protection
Your password protects your account. But passwords repeat. You reuse them elsewhere. Leaks happen. Hackers try common combinations. One success opens your market profile. Balance gone. Orders deleted. Recovery difficult.
Two factor authentication fixes this gap. After typing your password, you enter a code. This code generates from a unique secret. Even if hackers know your password, they lack the code. Access denied.
How to enable it
Log in. Go to security settings. Find the two factor section. Choose authenticator app method. Scan the QR code with your phone. Google Authenticator or Authy work well. Enter the generated six digit code. Save your backup recovery codes. Print them. Store them offline. Paper, metal, fireproof box. Digital backups risk loss if devices fail.
Why not SMS? Phones get cloned. SIM swapping occurs. Carriers hand out numbers easily. Authenticator apps run locally. No carrier involved. No network dependency. Stronger isolation.
If you lose your phone
Use the backup codes. Each code works once. Enter one at login. Regenerate the pair. Keep the remaining codes secure. If you lose the phone and the codes, account recovery involves support tickets. Slower. Messier. Prevention is cheaper.
Do not share codes with vendors. Do not share them with support. No one asks for your current TOTP code during normal operations. If someone does, hang up. It is a scam.
Rotate your authenticator app. Install it on two devices if possible. Phone and tablet. If one dies, the other survives. Sync between devices if supported.
Test the setup. Log out. Log in again. Confirm the prompt appears. Verify the code accepts correctly. Ensure the backup codes are readable. Write them clearly. Blur out the rest of the page. Focus on the digits.
This step takes five minutes. It protects months of trading. The ratio favors action. Do it now. Do not wait for trouble. Proactive security beats reactive repair. Your account contains value. Guard it accordingly.
